Lajkonik and Syrenka, waiting to perform |
Wśród występujacych zespołów i artystów indywidualnych , reprezentujących różne nacje zamieszkałe w Australii, nie zabrakło polskich zespołów folklorystycznych. Na prestiżowej estradzie No. 1 na Garema Place w centrum miasta wystąpiły sydnejskie zespoły "Syrenka" i "Lajkonik".
Oto relacja z Canberry Urszuli Lang:
Each year, the Polish Song and Dance Ensemble “Lajkonik” travels to Canberra for the National Multicultural Festival. This year our performance was on Saturday 9 February 2013, at 2pm. Polish Folkloric Ensemble “Syrenka” is a regular attendee as well and this year, at the initiative of our local Canberra-based co-ordinator, Mr Stan Kowalski, OAM, the youth of both Ensembles joined together on the main stage in Garema Place.
Pan Stas is full of energy and enthusiasm in his efforts to try and showcase our beautiful Polish youth and Polish Folk Dance, and we are very grateful to him for the support that he gives.
This year in a showcase of Polish culture, “Lajkonik” and “Syrenka” joined together to deliver a dynamic, colourful ½ hour show – Dances from the Polish Highland (Zywiec), Dances from Kurpie, Kujawiak-Oberek, Dances from Warmia, and Dances from Rzeszow. The youth are seasoned performers, and the changeovers were undertaken seamlessly, resulting in no waiting time for the audience between items. At the end, both Ensembles came on stage for a final bow. Members of both Ensembles enjoyed the friendly catch-up, and performing together in an integrated programme.
Lajkonik with Pan Stas, after the performance |
There is always a crowd of thousands, and each year it
amazes me, standing amongst the crowd, at how receptive the audience is to the
Polish music and dancing. It was also
lovely, when after the show, my good friends Dianna Laska-Moore (Canberra
Cultural Arts Council, former advisor to the QLD Government on Performing Arts,
currently specialist choreographer at McDonald College of Performing Arts,
North Strathfield) and Henry Laska (CEO of Canberra Symphonic Orchestra) came
to congratulate us on the performances.
On their way home from Canberra, Saturday
evening, and all in the course of a long day, our dedicated Lajkonik dancers
performed at a beautiful wedding at Sylvan Grove Country House, in the Southern
Highlands.Urszula Lang
