A new design featuring state-of-the art lighting will soon greet shoppers and visitors to Australia's premier shopping precinct - Sydney's Pitt Street Mall.
And the special low-energy LED lights will also be kind to the environment.
The design features a ribbon of 3.5 metre tall coloured light tubes down the centre of the mall.
The new system can also support seasonal displays such as Christmas decorations.
The lights will have a decorative glow as well as a downward component to provide the lighting levels needed for pedestrians.
"The lighting is the finishing touch to the City's major upgrade to Pitt Street Mall which has helped reinvigorate this great retail precinct as the number one shopping destination in Australia," said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.
"More than 65,000 people use Pitt Street Mall every day - it's our busiest and most prestigious shopping strip and the retail heartland of our global city."
The smart technology activates the lights only when there's not enough light from surrounding buildings, helping to increase safety in the mall at night.
The decorative LED light tubes will be spaced 7 metres apart along the length of the Mall and can be programmed to change colours.
